Contaminant Plume Modeling

Groundwater studies are an essential component of virtually all hazardous waste site investigations and of the environmental assessment process for many other industrial facilities. To support this area, Wilson’s hydrogeologic services include:

  • Hydrogeologic setting evaluation;
  • Determination of possible pollutant pathways;
  • Fate-and-transport studies;
  • Site evaluation program design;
  • Geologic and hydrogeologic mapping and surveys;
  • Excavating test pits, drilling test borings, and installing monitoring wells;
  • Geophysical logging and aquifer testing; and
  • Development and application of analytical and numerical computer models.

Wilson has the experience and qualifications to design and implement field, analytical, and modeling studies. Our geologists and hydrogeologists routinely investigate factors including:

  • The occurrence, source, and flow characteristics of Groundwater;
  • The quality and use patterns of groundwater;
  • Soil types and characteristics (e.g., depth, thickness, structure, and permeability);
  • Bedrock types, depths, distributions, and characteristics;
  • Seismic risk and other geologic hazards; and
  • Slope and topography.

Computerized modeling and data management are special capabilities at Wilson. Using our computerized graphics capability we prepare easy-to-use maps of groundwater quality, hydraulic head and flow over a site. Wilson's geologists and hydrogeologists deploy state-of-the-art modeling software to characterize plume

definition and provide appropriate design parameters. These include:

  • Visual MODFLOW;
  • MT3D;
  • Bioplume III;
  • Bioscreen;
  • Mofat (Motrans);
  • Minteqa2;
  • Qual2E;
  • Wasp;
  • NAPL Simulator; and
  • Aqtesolve.
